The good old days.

From Thursday, 20 February 2003:
"We will not see a machine replacing a human being in our lifetime. Man will be able to beat a computer in at least one game for a very long time," Kasparov told a press conference in Moscow a week after settling for a draw in a six-game match with the computer Deep Junior in New York.
Predictions about computers become quaint so quickly it is amazing. I'd say he has already been refuted. Kramnik couldn't win one game, and that was against a seriously handicapped computer!

Who cares? The human aspect of the game is all that matters.

Speaking of which, I say we invade Iceland, capture Bobby, and force him to play matches against Kasparov and the gang.

I agree about Fischer. The point of the post isn't that great computers make chess any less human or fun, but how off the mark Kasparov's prediction was. My prediction about computers: they will be our masters within two years, with the Iphone at the top of the food chain.

if computers ever get advanced enough to have emotions then it will change. there is that whole psychological/emotional aspect to the game that computers just don't have right now...

Computers may beat us consistantly, but they won't enjoy it...Rich
